A Nutritional Diet Program Eating Well For Optimum Health

from:

Dr. Weil’s Eating Well For Optimum Health plan is a sound nutritional diet program. His theory is that eating well can have a good influence over numerous health factors for individuals like ear infections, irritable bowel syndrome, arthritis, and weight loss. Dr. Weil recommends losing one to two pounds per week for safe long term weight loss. His way for effective weight loss is to properly balance the right carbohydrates, proteins and fats to eat for a nutritional diet program.

This nutritional diet program breaks the three groups of food down as to what is best for optimum health. Carbohydrates should be fifty to sixty percent of an individual’s calorie intake. Good carbohydrates are unrefined grains and vegetables such as, apples, baked beans, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, and brown rice. These types of foods release sugar into the blood stream more slowly keeping insulin balanced. Fats should be up to thirty percent of an individual’s calorie intake. These fats should be monounsaturated and omega three fats such as, olive oil, oily fishes, walnuts, and flax seeds. Protein should be up to ten to twenty percent of an individual calorie intake. Vegetable proteins like beans and soy beans should be substituted for animal proteins as much as possible. Forty grams of fiber is recommended daily.

Dairy products have limited value in this nutritional diet program. This is because many individuals have a difficult time digesting dairy. Dr. Weil recommends eating non dairy sources for calcium like sardines, leafy greens, broccoli, sea vegetables, tofu, sesame seeds; calcium fortified orange juice, and fortified soy milk. Individuals should avoid drinking regular milk, and eating cheese. Individuals will also require less calcium because they are consuming less protein which dries out the calcium in their bodies.

This nutritional diet program explains that carbohydrates are an individual’s main source of energy for their bodies but too many carbohydrates makes an individual gain weight and too few carbohydrates depletes the body of essential nutrients. Healthy fats support other functions in an individual’s body but can be used for an energy source, but too much fat makes an individual overweight and too little fat causes health concerns like hair loss, skin inflammation, and being prone to infections. Proteins build and repair the individual’s body, but these two can be broke down and used for energy, but too much protein strains the liver and kidneys and too little protein can cause an early death. Exercise is an important component in this nutritional diet program. Exercise increases calorie output, and can change an individual’s weight loss. This helps these individuals keep the weight off over the long term.
