A Low Carb Diet is a Lifestyle

from:

A low carb diet is a diet that concentrates on restricting the amount of carbohydrates you consume instead of focusing on low-fat diets. More people than ever are overweight or obese because they eat too much of the wrong foods, have poor eating habits and lack exercise. More and more people are turning to a low carb diet as a means to lose their excess weight. Studies have shown that there are several benefits to going on a low carb diet. Along with being a weight control method, many people on a low carb diet find that this diet actually cures or helps health conditions such as muscle and joint pain, headaches, heartburn, skin conditions, and PMS symptoms. A low carb diet can also decrease blood pressure, reduce blood glucose, lower blood insulin levels, improve triglycerides, and increase good cholesterols. Many individuals on a low carb diet find they have no craving for sweets, increased energy levels, less emotional or compulsive eating, fewer mood swings, and improved mental concentration.

A low carb diet limits foods high in carbohydrates and replaces them with foods containing more fiber, fats, and protein. In other words, such foods as non-starchy vegetables, nuts, fish, meat, and cheese replace most breads, cereals, potatoes, rice, and other high carbohydrate foods. A low carb diet means cutting down on your carbohydrate intake and exercising regularly. Usually during the first two weeks on a low carb diet, you eat approximately twenty grams of carbs daily with this increasing on the third week. People see considerable weight loss, even during the first couple of weeks.

Unlike many other diets, people that choose a low carb diet are able to stay on this diet because there is no starving themselves and they do not feel hungry all the time. In addition, the rapid weight loss encourages a dieter by building up their self-confidence and willpower to continue. Foods, which are high in fat and protein and low in carbohydrates, such as cheeses and meats, are normally fine on a low carb diet.

Keeping a food journal or diary often helps you by increasing your consciousness and awareness about food, hidden food sensitivities, and even your mood/eating patterns. In addition, having support such as a diet friend, or belonging to a support group helps whether you are on a low carb diet or another type of diet. Most people remain more committed when they have someone to talk to about their diet, someone that listens or someone that is on the same diet, so they share their experiences with each other.
